Movie Review: Batman Begins
Title:Batman Begins (2005)
Rating:8/10

We watched Batman Begins tonight with the Corays. I'm not even sure it matters that I put a review of the movie on my blog... the film was released 1½ years ago. Kristy and I watched the movie on Friday night, but we both liked it so much that we wanted to see it again before we had to return it to Blockbuster. That says something right there.

Indeed, it sure was refreshing to see Batman finally receive his due... the movie is (I think) the best superhero movie since the original Superman with Christopher Reeves. I really liked Tim Burton's Batman with Michael Keaton; it was dark, the acting was good, and the story was compelling. But the series deteriorated quickly, culminating with the atrocious Batman Circus (oh man, what a stinker!). The new Batman movie is a fresh start for Batman and it delivers.

For starters, the movie is rich with details about the main character and relies much more on developing the story than overwhelming the audience with special effects. Also noticeably absent is the stilted cardboard caricatures that we were forced to endure in previous Batman movies (e.g. Schwarzenegger's Mr. Freeze and Clooney's Batman). Instead we have Christian Bale who was both equally riveting as Bruce Wayne and as Batman and we have a supporting cast that was just exceptional... led by Caine's Alfred, Oldman's Gordon, and Freeman's Fox. Bravo.

Summary: Go see it again.
