Home Removation Project: Vault Removal: Floor Preparations
The hardwood floor installation is scheduled to begin tomorrow. As part of the preparations for the install, some of the planks in the entry area were removed so that the new wood can be threaded into the original flooring. This will hopefully give the appearance that the hardwood floor in the living room was put down at the same time as the existing hardwoods in the entry way and the dining room. We are also replacing the linoleum in the mud room with hardwoods, so that floor was ripped out today.

This evening I removed the existing kitchen island exposing the hardwoods underneath (I was thinking that there may have been a gap in the original hardwood installation under the island cabinet, but it turned out not to be the case). Kristy wants to replace the island eventually (with one that has seating around the outside), so I figured now was as good as time as any.

The first picture shows the kitchen with the island removed (note the obvious yellowing of the finish on the exposed finished hardwoods). The other two pictures are taken of the threading that will take place in the entry way.
