Landscaping Project: Pathway Pavers: New Topiaries
Part of our landscaping refresh has not only included new paver
pathways and arbors. We also decided to replace the Quaking Aspen out
front from "pom pom" topiaries. They look pretty cool (but may be
hard to keep them trimmed and looking good).
Landscaping Project: Pathway Pavers: Progress Report
The pathways are starting to take shape and look pretty good!
We dressed up the side yard quite a bit. First of all, we tore out the
old white wood arbors and replaced them with black iron ones. We also
removed the two 2x8-wood sided planters and upgraded them to one long
continuous bed that is enclosed by a small 6-inch high retaining wall.
Here are a couple of pictures of the side yard:
These next two pictures show the areas immediately adjacent to the
covered patio. The picture below at left shows the southern side of
the patio as you walk toward the arbor and around the side of the
house. We widened the path here a bit to make room for the barbeque.
We are going to place the barbeque on the right side of that picture
with its back against he house. The barbeque will not be covered
as a result. This will allow the smoke to vent upward from the
barbeque unencumbered by the patio ceiling. It will be easier
to visualize once I have the barbeque placed over there. Next week it
might be all done and I'll post an update.
The picture below at right shows the paver pattern that was installed
at the base of the spiral stair case. Nice!
Here is a shot of the path that heads over to the gazebo away from the
spiral staircase.
Landscaping Project: Pathway Pavers: Arbor Installation
Our two new arbors were installed today. They sit in the same place as
our old white wood ones, but these are made out of iron and tubular
steel and are painted black. I'd snap some pictures, but Kristy has
the camera down in San Diego. I'll be sure to post some later.
I was not impressed with the arbor installer.
He chopped our CATV cable that runs from the street curb to the entry
point at our house while digging footings for one of the arbors. I
only noticed it indirectly because my internet
was down for much of the morning. After having put two and two
together, I walked out there to find the severed cable at the bottom of
a hole that was just about ready to receive a quikcrete pour. Yikes!
The severed cable would be at the bottom of a concrete arbor footing
if I had not intervened. I patched the cable together for now, but
will have to figure out something more permanent tomorrow. Phhpppt.
Landscaping Project: Pathway Pavers: Path Preparation
We are replacing our flagstone pathways with pavers. We had to choose
what kind of material to put at the bottom of the spiral staircase and
we decided that a circular pattern done with pavers would look the
best... so all the pathways will be done with pavers to match. It
should look pretty good. Today the landscaping crew showed up to
remove all of the old material and to prepare the paths for the new
pavers.
Here is what it looks like without the flagstone (the flourescent
orange paint marks where the new paths will be located):
