Home Renovation Project: Back Patio Deck: Sample Design
Almost every day I bike past a newly constructed home that has a backyard covered patio that is pretty close to what I have been thinking our own should be. Today I snapped a few pictures of the patio to show to Kristy and Baxton, see below:

Some of the considerations... gas fireplace or not? I'm thinking not because of the ambiance that a real fireplace would add to the space (the crackling noise of a real fire, etc). But gas does have its benefits: it's easy to light and it's easy to clean. We are planning on having fireplaces both on the bottom (in the covered patio area) and on the top (in the exposed deck area). Maybe gas on the top and non-gas on the bottom? Or vice versa? We also need to go look at outdoor iron/aluminum circular staircase vendors and find a design we like.

Baxton has already completed the engineering for the structure. He is planning on submitting a permit application to the city next week. We'll start construction either in late May or early June.
