Home Renovation Project: Attic Conversion: Dried In
We are getting close to having the framing completely finished (a milestone that I would classify as marking the halfway point in our project). There are just a few more items that need to be addressed. Some of the bigger issues were addressed today... like framing in the windows on the north and south facing walls and extending our fake fireplace flue up 4 feet. After the remaining items are complete on a framing punchlist that Tad and I made, then we will have the framing complete. It is easy to see the project fatigue in the demeanor of the framing crew as they are anxious to be done with the project. We did get "dried in" today; the last of the Iceguard underlayment was installed. So no more tarps! (Yes!)

We also passed the plumbing inspection today and the exterior shear inspection. Good news. With the exterior shear inspection behind us, we can begin to install the exterior vapor barrier on the exposed walls and start installing the siding.

Since we are dried in now, there is no need to wrap the roof in tarps at the end of each day. Recently, because of the rain, the tarp has been on the roof more or less all day and all night. The workers have only peeled back sections here and there when work needs to be done. So today is the first day that we have really seen the full front profile of the house without any barriers (I also have removed the final birch). Looks good. Can't wait to get the siding and shingles on.
There will be four big windows on the northeast facing side of the house that will provide a lot of wonderful indirect light to brighten the attic. These windows are shown here on the side elevation. From this view, the extension we had made to the fake fireplace flue can be seen.
The framers put the sheeting on the roof for the kid's playhouse. They also framed int the door. The sheeting makes the little house look a bit more like a house.
