Park City Vacation: First Day
We managed to do quite a bit on our first day here in Park City. We hit
the pool in the morning and then drove to downtown Park City (from our
hotel at The Canyons Ski Resort) to ride
the Alpine Slide. When we got there it was too crowded; the line was
quite long due to Labor Day no doubt. Instead we rode some fair rides
they had there and let the kids run around.
The Thurmonds had other plans for the evening. So we travelled to Provo
with Karen for dinner and a movie. We met up with one of Karen's
roommates/former-mission-companion for dinner and ate at one of our
favorite Provo dining establishments,
Los
Hermanos.
Afterwards, we went to good-ol' Movies 8! And although the movie
ticket price has gone up to the obscene value of $1.50, on Monday night
every ticket can be purchased for 50¢. Prices that are quite
impossible to find in the Sammamish/Issaquah area.
We saw the delightful children's movie,
Madagascar.
While waiting in line to enter the theater, we ran into Shantell and
Brielle, who were there seeing another feature. The rest of their family
(Brent, Amanda, and Tyler) were in the theater already, as their movie
(Fantastic Four) had started about a half an hour prior. The second
chance
meeting for me in as many days. Provo... it's a small world.
After the movie, we parted with Aunt Karen and dropped by our old place
of residence in Provo (575 N. Seven Peaks Blvd, #31) and visited the
current owners, and good friends, Michael and Sarah Hansen. It was with
great surprise to learn while chatting with them, that Michael has now
lived in our old home for longer than we did. Looking back, it seems
like we spent much more time there than we have in Sammamish. Time has
sure gone by faster with kids. We were busy in Provo (Kristy got her
Masters and PhD in that home... and I held down a BYU job, was working on
my PhD, and started iServer), but it was just a different kind of busy I
guess. It was nice to chat with the Hansens and think about old times.
