Movie Review: Young@Heart
| Title: | Young@Heart (2008) |
| Rating: | 8/10 |
I heard about the documentary,
Young@Heart,
from some obscure reference made on a radio show or on a
now-long-forgotten message board. I'm glad a paid attention
because this is a gem of a show and I'm sorry I didn't take the
time to seek it out sooner. Young@Heart is a chorus of senior
citizens with an average age of over 80 that present renditions
of music from such artists as Talking Heads, The Ramones, James
Brown, The Bee Gees, Pointer Sisters, and many others. The
lyrics when sung by this collection of folks - many of which
have had near death experiences - becomes especially poignant.
The most powerful moment of the film comes when a member of
the choir, Fred Knittle, sings Coldplay's "Fix You" (watch it
here...
the clicking sound heard during the video is Mr. Knittle's
oxygen machine). I highly recommend you watch the film to
view this powerful performance in its proper context. A must
see.

Hugs Not Necessarily The Best Medicine
I came home a bit late tonight after listening to some good advice
at the Priesthood Session of General Conference. I drove home and
took the S-curves on snake hill faster than I ever have before...
I don't know why, just having some fun. I almost lost it around
the sharp one. 150,000 miles and the BMW is still tight, scary
tight - I thought I took it to the edge of its ability, but I was
wrong. As I pulled into the driveway, Eliana was watching
for me in her second story window. I could see her silhouette as
I pulled in the driveway. I parked the car, got out and looked
up... she darted away from the window immediately. (Caught!)
"I was looking for you.", she said to me when I opened her door
and entered her bedroom. "You found me.", I answered. Olivia
was pretending to be asleep, her eyes were closed but her big
wide smile gave everything away. We both heard Berkeley cough
in his adjacent bedroom. "Berkeley sounds sick. Maybe we should
give him some extra hugs and kisses in the morning.", I
suggested. *pause* "Or we could give him medicine, Daddy, I
sink so." Olivia is so pragmatic at such a young age.
